Since 1957
The story of the Linde
For the Linde’s 60th anniversary a commemorative booklet was printed. It contains a poem about how the village inn in St. Nikolaus, the part of Kaltern that locals simply call „Niklas", became a home for holiday guests.
60 years
des isch a longe Zeit...und drum isch es a dr Wert, dass man drüber schreibt!!!
It begins in 1957. With Andi Dietl and his wife Traudl the first holidaymakers arrived from Heppenheim. Every year Andi organised coach trips to Kaltern, and farmer Günther with his driver Lenz brought the guests over the Brenner Pass and down the Eisack Valley to the final stop at the Linde. There the rooms were handed out, and the suitcases went to the lodgings by wheelbarrow. The way was sometimes long.
In the evening, though, everyone came back together at the Linde, and with a good glass of wine the holiday began. That is how it has stayed to this day, and that is exactly why the poem belongs here.
We leave the poem the way it was written: in South Tyrolean dialect, with all its quirks. If something is unclear, just ask us at the table.
